Genshin Impact Version 7.1, titled “A Rekviem for the Underworld,” is shaping up to be an important chapter in the Snezhnaya storyline while also marking the game’s sixth anniversary. The update continues the Archon Quest, introduces two new 5-star characters, brings back Skirk and Escoffier, and returns the Moonchase Festival to Liyue.
Beyond the usual story, banners, and events, the anniversary celebration also brings a substantial package of character and account rewards. With so many different systems and activities arriving together, Version 7.1 has a broader scope than a typical character-focused update.
Here is everything currently confirmed for Genshin Impact Version 7.1, with the focus kept on the update as a whole rather than individual character builds.
Genshin Impact version 7.1 release date
Genshin Impact Version 7.1 is scheduled to launch on September 23, 2026, under the title “A Rekviem for the Underworld.” The update follows Version 7.0 and continues the game’s journey through Snezhnaya. The game’s sixth anniversary falls on September 28, 2026, placing the celebration within the Version 7.1 cycle.
Snezhnaya’s story enters a major new chapter
The main storyline moves forward in Snezhnaya with another major chapter of the Snezhnaya Archon Quest. The Traveler becomes increasingly involved in the conflict surrounding Ronova, the Ruler of Death, who plays a central role in the new chapter.
Ronova also appears as a new Weekly Boss, adding a major combat encounter alongside the story content. Together, the Archon Quest and new boss encounter push the Snezhnaya storyline forward while adding another major combat challenge to the update.
The story is also tied to one of the anniversary’s most notable rewards: after completing the latest Archon Quest, players can choose one 5-star character from the event-exclusive selection pool.
Two New 5-Star characters arrive in Phase 1
Version 7.1 introduces two new playable 5-star characters: Vesna and Vodyanitsa.

Vesna is a 5-star Anemo Sword character, while Vodyanitsa is a 5-star Hydro Catalyst character. Both debut in the first phase of the update, making them the main new additions to the opening banner lineup. Both characters are also connected to the newer Stellar Swirl mechanics introduced during the Snezhnaya era.

Skirk and Escoffier return in Phase 2
The second half of Version 7.1 brings back two 5-star characters: Skirk and Escoffier.

Their rerun gives existing players another opportunity to obtain characters they may have missed, while newer players get another chance to add them to their rosters. With the two debut characters arriving first and the reruns following later, players with limited Primogems will need to decide which part of the banner lineup best fits their priorities.

Moonchase returns to Liyue
While the main story remains focused on Snezhnaya, Version 7.1 also brings players back to Liyue through the return of the Moonchase Festival. The event provides a change of pace from the darker Snezhnaya storyline, shifting the focus toward Liyue’s seasonal celebration, and also comes with a new 4-star event weapon

Moonchase is joined by several other activities throughout Version 7.1, including Silverwing in Pursuit of the Moon, Carefree Snowball Fight, and Predictive Victory Dynamics.
Miliastra Wonderland contents

Together, these events offer a variety of activities beyond the Archon Quest and character banners, giving the version additional content to work through between major story and combat updates. Miliastra Wonderland also receives new content and improvements, giving players another way to spend time in the game outside the usual cycle of quests, banners, and combat events.
The Sixth Anniversary brings two 5-Star character selections
The anniversary celebration is one of the biggest features of Version 7.1, with players receiving two separate 5-star character selections. One selector covers a pool of previously limited 5-star characters, while the other comes from the game’s standard 5-star roster. Together, the two choices give players more flexibility when expanding or completing their collections.

Here are the active Version 7.1 livestream codes for extra Primogems, Mora, and Hero’s Wit. Be sure to redeem them quickly before the expiration deadline!

A Limited 5-Star From a Six-Character Pool
The first selection allows players to choose one character from six limited 5-star options:

- Baizhu
- Nilou
- Varesa
- Tartaglia
- Chiori
- Clorinde
Unlike the standard selector, this pool contains characters who were previously available through limited character banners. Players can use the selection to add one of these characters to their roster without waiting for another rerun.
A separate Standard 5-Star selection
The second selector comes from the standard 5-star roster. The available characters are:

- Jean
- Diluc
- Mona
- Keqing
- Qiqi
- Tighnari
- Dehya
- Yumemizuki Mizuki
The second choice offers another way to expand or round out a permanent roster, with its value depending largely on which characters an account already has.
1,600 Primogems, 10 Intertwined Fates and more
The sixth-anniversary package also includes 1,600 Primogems and 10 Intertwined Fates. Converting the Primogems into wishes brings the total value of these two rewards to 20 Intertwined Fates.

Those resources arrive during a version featuring four 5-star characters across its two banner phases, giving players additional currency to spend on Vesna, Vodyanitsa, Skirk, or Escoffier, or simply save for a future banner. Players will additionally receive a commemorative Wind Glider and other celebration rewards. The Genesis Crystal first top-up bonus will also reset, allowing eligible purchases to receive the initial bonus again.
Who will get the most from version 7.1?
New players stand to gain the most immediately from the anniversary selectors, which can significantly expand a developing roster.
Returning Travelers have an opportunity to catch up with the Snezhnaya storyline while revisiting characters they may have missed during earlier banner cycles.
Veteran accounts, meanwhile, may find more value in the combination of new story content, reruns, seasonal events, and additional collection opportunities. The two selectors also provide greater flexibility for established rosters.

Final thoughts
Version 7.1 brings together several different sides of Genshin Impact without relying on a single headline feature. The Snezhnaya storyline moves forward, the character lineup expands with both new releases and reruns, while Moonchase and Miliastra Wonderland offer alternatives to the main quest.
The anniversary package gives the update additional weight, particularly through the two 5-star selections and the broader collection of account rewards. Resource management will largely come down to choosing which characters to pursue and how to use the anniversary selections based on an existing roster.
