Marvel’s Wolverine unlocks worldwide at 12:00 AM ET on September 15, 2026. That works out to 9:00 PM PT on September 14 for players on the US West Coast.
The different dates do not mean one region gets the game earlier. They represent the same worldwide launch moment viewed across different time zones. The live countdown on the official PlayStation Store listing points to this synchronized unlock.

Is Marvel’s Wolverine out yet?
Marvel’s Wolverine is playable once the clock reaches 12:00 AM ET on September 15. Before that point, a preloaded digital copy may appear on your PS5 home screen, but it remains locked.
If you are reading this after the listed time, the game should already be available. A lock icon that remains after the launch moment usually points to a delayed license refresh or a wider PlayStation Network issue rather than another regional release window.
How to check the release countdown on PS5
Your own PlayStation Store timer is the quickest way to confirm the remaining wait:
- Open Marvel’s Wolverine from your PS5 home screen or Game Library.
- Select View Product to open its store page.
- Check the countdown shown in place of the normal Play button.
The timer is tied to the PlayStation Store and the account that owns the preorder, so use it as the final reference if your console displays something different from a third-party countdown site.

What to do if Marvel’s Wolverine is still locked
First, make sure the release time for your region has actually passed. Then restart the PS5 and open the game again. If the padlock remains, restore the game license:
- Highlight Marvel’s Wolverine on the home screen or in Game Library.
- Press the Options button.
- Select Restore License.
You can also open Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses. Sony says restoring licenses does not affect saved data. Its official PS5 license guide provides the same steps.
If that does not work, check the PlayStation Network service status before deleting or downloading the full game again. A launch-night outage can prevent the console from confirming ownership even when the files are already installed.
Can you play Marvel’s Wolverine early?
There is no early-access period attached to the Standard or Digital Deluxe Edition. Paying for the more expensive edition adds cosmetic items and progression bonuses, not extra days of play.
The usual New Zealand account trick should not provide a head start either. The published schedule uses one global release moment rather than separate midnight launches for every country. New Zealand reaches that moment at 4:00 PM local time, after the calendar has already moved to September 15 there.
A physical copy delivered ahead of schedule is a different situation, but delivery timing depends on the retailer and is not an official early-access benefit.
Marvel’s Wolverine preload and file size
Preloading is already available for digital preorders. The initial PS5 download has been reported at approximately 79.36 GB before the day-one update, so leaving around 90 GB free is a sensible precaution. The number shown on your console may vary by edition, region or installed update.
Preloading downloads the game files but does not bypass the release timer. Keep the game installed and let the PS5 finish any update before launch, especially if your connection is slow.
The official PlayStation page lists the game as a PS5 title with offline single-player support and confirms that it is PS5 Pro Enhanced.
What is included in the day-one update?
Insomniac has confirmed that Photo Mode requires a day-one update. The studio’s game features breakdown also lists New Game Plus, Mission Replay and Nightmare Challenges among the features available at launch.
That makes the update worth downloading even if the base game has already finished preloading. Photo Mode requires an internet connection and a PlayStation account for the update itself, although the game is listed as supporting offline play afterward.
What platforms is Marvel’s Wolverine releasing on?
Marvel’s Wolverine launches on PS5 and PS5 Pro. It is not available on PS4, and PlayStation says the game was built from the ground up for the current-generation console.
No PC or Xbox version has been announced. If this is the game pushing you toward Sony’s console, our guide on whether a PS5 is still worth buying covers the broader hardware decision.
