Sucker Punch dropped the full Most Wanted roster during the September 3 State of Play reveal, and the headline is exactly what a lot of Ghost of Tsushima fans were quietly hoping for: Jin Sakai is playable. But he is one of four, and if you only watch the trailer you will miss how differently these characters actually play. Atsu, Oyuki, Nagato, and Jin each start with a katana and then branch into their own weapons, tools, Ultimate, and Kill Streak.
The announcement posts mostly stop at “Jin is in it.” Below is the full breakdown of every playable character, what they fight with, and which one actually fits how you play, based only on what Sucker Punch has confirmed so far.
What is Most Wanted?
Most Wanted is a single-player combat survival mode built into Ghost of Yotei Complete Edition, and it launches October 1, 2026. Sucker Punch calls it their spin on a roguelike. You pick a bounty from a board, fight through waves of enemies and minibosses, grab perks between waves to shape a build, then face that bounty’s final target. Clear a bounty and you can replay it at higher difficulty, and the hardest run of all ends with a fight against Lord Saito.
You earn Mon during runs, which you spend outside of combat on new techniques, weapon upgrades, charms, and character unlocks. One detail worth knowing before you invest: any cosmetics you earn in Most Wanted also unlock in the main game, so they carry over to Atsu’s original story and to the Echoes of Sekigahara expansion.

The four playable characters

Atsu
Atsu is your default starting character, and she is the most “Ghost of Yotei proper” of the group since this is her game. She fights with dual katana and carries two Ghost Tools: Metsubushi, the blinding powder, and a Blind Bomb.
Her Ultimate, Call of the Pack, summons two wolves to tear into nearby enemies. Her Kill Streak, Onryo’s Howl, terrifies everyone around her and forces one enemy to flee outright. She is the safe, well-rounded pick if you just want to start swinging and learn the mode.
Oyuki
Oyuki is the one I would steer people toward if they like playing dirty. She fights with the kusarigama, kunai, and the tanegashima rifle, so she covers close chain-range and ranged pressure at the same time.
Her Ultimate is Shadow Killer, which drops a cloud of smoke and lets her quickly assassinate two nearby enemies. Her Kill Streak, Shadow Shinobi, summons a Nine Tails ally that fights beside her and lands its own assassinations for a limited time. If your instinct in these games is to thin the herd before anyone notices you, she is built for it.
Nagato
Nagato is the ranged specialist, and he has the deepest weapon spread of the four: the yari spear for reach, the tanzutsu pistol, and two bows, the yumi long bow and the hankyu short bow.
His Ultimate, Gambler’s Mark, tags two enemies and fires a guaranteed headshot at each. His Kill Streak, Blast Arrow, refills his Concentration and hands him an explosive arrow. He rewards positioning and patience more than the other three. If you would rather pick a fight apart from distance than get dragged into a melee scrum, he is your guy.
Jin Sakai
And now the one you scrolled down for. Jin’s model carries over from Ghost of Tsushima, faithful but touched up for Ghost of Yotei: he now has scars and grayer hair to reflect the years since 2020. The important bit for combat: he keeps all four of his original stances (Stone, Water, Wind, Moon), so if you spent Ghost of Tsushima swapping stances to counter different enemy types, that muscle memory comes straight with you. He also starts with his Sakai family katana and armor, a Sticky Bomb, and a hankyu.
His Ultimate is Dance of Wrath, the Ghost of Tsushima skill that targets multiple enemies and disarms them. His Kill Streak is, of course, Ghost Stance, letting him terrify nearby enemies and kill a limited number of them in a single hit. Jin is the pick for the returning player, and honestly the one I expect most people to gravitate to first out of pure nostalgia.
How do you unlock the characters?
You unlock characters by spending Mon, the currency you earn from runs, on character unlocks outside of combat. Once all four are unlocked, you can freely switch between them run to run.
Sucker Punch has not confirmed the unlock order or how much Mon each character costs, so treat anyone claiming a specific price or “unlock Jin last” sequence with suspicion until the mode is actually out. That information is not in the official reveal.
Already own Ghost of Yotei? Here is what you need
This one trips a lot of people up, so read it twice. Most Wanted does not arrive through the free patch. If you already own the base game, you have to buy the Complete Edition Upgrade for $14.99 to get Most Wanted (and the Echoes of Sekigahara expansion) on October 1.
The free patch that lands the same day for every owner is a separate thing. It gives you Beauty of Yotei photo mode, new Watanabe Mode tracks, a high contrast accessibility option, and the ability to keep one armor set’s look while using another’s stats. Good stuff, but no Most Wanted. So if playing these four characters is the reason you are here, budget the $14.99.

Which character should you play first?
Quick caveat first: nobody has actually played Most Wanted yet, so this is read off the reveal, not a post-launch tier list. I will update it once the mode is out on October 1 and we can see how these kits hold up in real runs.
That said: start with Atsu to learn the mode, play Jin for the nostalgia hit, but give Oyuki a real run before you settle on a main. On paper she has the most interesting kit of the four, and the trailer badly undersells her. Once all four are unlocked you lose nothing by rotating anyway, and the perks reshape each character every run.
